Beethoven and his Rhenish Musician Colleagues
During his youth in Bonn, the young organist, court musician and composer Beethoven enjoyed a very fruitful musical life that had a decisive influence on him. However, his contemporaries, their musical activities and their compositions remain in the shadow of the great composer. The international conference takes up this desideratum and places Beethoven in new or altered contexts. The aim is to both illuminate individual biographies and investigate systematic issues.
In cooperation with the Working Committee for Rhenish Music History (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für rheinische Musikgeschichte), the Ferdinand Ries Society (Ferdinand Ries Gesellschaft e.V.) and Stadtmuseum Bonn.
