BTHVN2020 | Detmold: Beethoven – Lord of the Tones V

The six concerts of the series will tell of the ups and downs of his life, and portray them in his music. Together with the audience, they will explore Beethoven's unbridled urge to compose music and try to understand his fate as a young man who loses his hearing. They will perform Ludwig's groundbreaking compositions for string quartets at the Detmold Summer Theatre and create tunes and variations à la Beethoven. There will also be stage performances of works by Beethoven's contemporaries, his great role models and ardent admirers, as well as compositions by later generations, reminiscent of the great master. The series will conclude with the Family Music Festival of the East Westphalia-Lippe Philharmonic Society (Philharmonische Gesellschaft OWL) and a festive celebration with music by and for Ludwig van Beethoven, and many a birthday surprise.
The "Concertino Piccolino" is aimed at pre-school children, as well as first and second grade pupils. Theatrically staged concert stories will connect the presented pieces of music, provide playful explanations on works, composers and instruments, and guide us through the one-hour programmes with excitement, humour and child-friendly storylines. The audience will thereby join in the concerts: It will be invited to listen to the stories and the music, and join in musical performances by singing, dancing or other sounds.
