Fidelio – Concertante Opera Performance

The concert is unfortunately cancelled.

250th Anniversary

Starts: 7:30 pm

Ludwig van Beethoven’s only opera “Fidelio” had a very long and painstaking history. It was only the third version that was successful and satisfied the composer to a certain extent. The first version of 1805 and the second of 1806 are rarely heard today. A concertante performance brings the symphonic qualities of the work to the fore. Large sections of music have little regard for the characteristics of the human voice. Instead Beethoven experiments with novel and striking orchestral effects. The course of the drama is determined decisively by the orchestral sounds, showcasing the full sovereignty of Beethoven's creative power.
