Hits and Hymns. Sounds of Contemporary History

© Stiftung Haus der Geschichte, Axel Thünker
Music sparks emotions: it agitates, mobilizes and forges identity.
Commemorating the 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven, the Haus der
Geschichte explores the topic of music and politics; through the eyes of contemporary
history it references the political artist that Beethoven indeed was.
Topics in the exhibition include a discussion about the national anthems in both
German states, musical protest songs against the “Establishment” in the 1960s,
GDR singer-songwriters as well as the current discussion surrounding the ECHOMusic
Awards 2018.
