Immortal Beethoven. Encounters with Poland - Cologne Vocal Soloists and others
Immortal Beethoven. Encounters with Poland
The chamber choir Voci di Fuoco, Bonn and the Cologne Vocal Soloists together with the Trio Zaginione Archivum from Katowice, Poland, invite you to a musical search for traces in the border areas of art and folk music: The ensembles will juxtapose works by Beethoven, Nystedt, Rheinberger and Szymanowski with arrangements of Polish folk tunes. The centrepiece of the concerts is the world premiere of the work "DROGA / WEG" by Cologne composer Michael Ostzryga, written for the Beethoven Year 2020.
Traditional melodies have been an important source of inspiration for many composers. Ludwig van Beethoven also arranged 139 folk songs from various European countries, including a melody from Poland. The chamber choir Voci di Fuoco, Bonn, the Cologne Vocal Soloists and the Trio Zaginione Archivum take this little-known aspect of Beethoven's oeuvre as the occasion for a German-Polish encounter concert: under the direction of Fabian Hemmelmann, they juxtapose choral works and folk song arrangements by Ludwig van Beethoven, Knut Nystedt, Josef Rheinberger, Karol Szymanowski and others with experimental arrangements of Polish folk tunes.
The centrepiece of the concerts will be the world premiere of the work DROGA / WEG by Cologne composer Michael Ostzryga, written for the Beethoven Year 2020. The five-movement composition for two choirs, accordion and clarinet addresses questions about the coming into being and passing away of life, about the lure of distance and the longing for home. The music, like the German-Polish text collage, is an exploration of the work of Ludwig van Beethoven. Ostrzyga contrasts musical set pieces from different works, creates new contexts and generates spatial sound effects.
