"Madame Dubarry" - silent film with live music accompaniment

Under the title "Beethoven and his time in silent film", the Förderverein Filmkultur Bonn e.V. presents a total of three silent films with live music accompaniment. The films take visitors on a journey back in time to the 18th century - right into the heart of Beethoven's rebellious era, which was characterised by revolutions and heroes, battles, courage and betrayal.

The historical film MADAME DUBARRY (Ernst Lubitsch, 1919) will kick off the series of events on 19 September at 11 am. The young Jeanne - based on the historical person Marie du Barry - attracts the attention of Count Dubarry, who introduces her to the court in Paris, where she eventually becomes the influential mistress of King Louis XV. MADAME DUBARRY tells an epochal story of power, politics and love at the beginning of the French Revolution and shines especially with silent film stars Pola Negri and Emil Jannings in the leading roles. The fantastic duo of Sabrina Zimmermann on violin and Mark Pogolski on grand piano provide atmospheric musical accompaniment.

The audience also gets a particularly good access to the film through an accompanying introduction, in which the film and its plot are classified in depth.
