MAX KLINGER and the artwork of the future

In his paintings and sculptures, he turned away from the traditional academic-idealizing concept of the figure to a shocking naturalness. With this artistic approach he made a significant contribution to the formulation of a modern image of man. Inspired by Richard Wagner, Klinger strove to overcome genre boundaries in the sense of a Gesamtkunstwerk in which painting, sculpture, architecture - and, if possible, music - merge into a harmonious unity.
His monumental Beethoven monument is considered a central example of late romantic Beethoven veneration and will be on display in Bonn at the end of the Beethoven anniversary year 2020.
