The Vox Bona Chamber Choir opens our “Nocturne” weekend with a concentrated a cappella programme focusing on the theme of night and featuring choral works from 150 years of choral history. Johannes Brahms’ “Kleines Deutsches Requiem“ (Little German Requiem) stands alongside folksong arrangements by Max Reger and a ‘neo-impressionist’ piece by American composer Eric Whitacre. The 16-voice choir will present Richard Strauss’ setting of Schiller’s ode “Der Abend” (Evening) and Schumann’s “Mondnacht” (Moonlit Night) in an arrangement by the extraordinary choir conductor Clytus Gottwald. The evening will conclude with a buoyant choral arrangement of Piazzolla’s tango “Adiós Nonino” (Farewell Father).
