Outernational: Transtraditional Concerts - #2 Wa & Davul // Concert film
Music as a history of change and migration: "Outernational" is a new transtraditional concert series at the radialsystem that sets out in search of a contemporary, hybrid, global music without exoticisms and essentialisms. "Outernational" presents interdisciplinary programmes in collaboration with outstanding soloists, which are supplemented by political, social and postcolonial questions in the context of "Outernational Listening Sessions".
After the launch of "Outernational" at the end of October 2020, the series will continue with a concert film on 15 January: For the first time, the duo of Palestinian musician Kamilya Jubran and Swiss trumpeter and electro artist Werner Hasler will musically meet with Istanbul-born musician Cevdet Erek - accompanied by baroque and renaissance sounds that span ancient listening spaces between foundation to ornament. Kamilya Jubran is one of the most formative and influential voices of the Arab avant-garde. She infuses traditional musical influences with her characteristic joy of experimentation, playing with musical expectations. In her new programme "Wa" in duo with Werner Hasler, the singer ventures into new musical spaces - quadrophonically amplified textures that collapse in the next moment. Cevdet Erek dedicates his long-developed performance to the davul. His playing style is unique and encompasses complex traditional dance rhythms to techno-like to sensitive archaic beats. The programme is framed by Baroque and Renaissance sounds that span ancient listening spaces from foundation to ornament - played by Andreas Arend on the theorbo, David-Maria Gramse on the violin and Liam Byrne on the viola da gamba.
Each concert is accompanied by a digital focus in VAN Magazine Outernational with background information on the music, the instruments and the artists: www.van-outernational.com.
The concert film and a stream of the "Outernational Listening Session" will be available in radar on the radialsystem website: www.radialsystem.de
