Piano recitals - Amadeus Wiesensee
"For the opening concert as Artist in Residence and my solo recital, I have chosen Robert Schumann's Fantasy in C major, a work that is particularly close to my heart and which has a special connection to the city of Bonn through the historical context of its composition, the erection of the Beethoven monument on Münsterplatz. Equally a unique musical echo of Beethoven's work and a deeply personal love lament for Schumann's "distant lover" Clara Wieck, the fantasy is unparalleled in tracing human longing in all its shades between manic obsession, frozen emptiness of heart and freely loving devotion. Maurice Ravel then turns to the darker side of the human psyche in his great triptych "Gaspard de la nuit", three fantastic, demonic tone paintings inspired by the visionary prose poems of the same name by Aloysius Bertrand."
