Giovanni Bellucci piano

Works by Ludwig van Beethoven

In 1840, for his concert before a particularly demanding Leipzig audience, Liszt added to the program the symphony he often and gladly performed: the "Pastorale". Wouldn't this work have been more appropriate in the city spoiled by the Gewandhaus, Mendelssohn and Schumann, had it not been in the original? Liszt, however, did not consider his piano representations to be a stopgap measure due to a lack of orchestra. He fully trusted the modern grand piano to have adequate qualities: "Through the immeasurable development of its harmonic violence, the pianoforte is increasingly seeking to appropriate all orchestral compositions. In the range of its seven octaves, it is able to reproduce [...] all features, all combinations, all forms of the most thorough and deepest sound creations.
