With Beethoven through Europe: 9 Symphonies, 9 Cities
From 1 pm, the German-French cultural channel Arte will broadcast all nine of Beethoven's symphonies from nine European cities. The concert of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra conducted by Daniel Harding from the Arkadenhof of the University of Bonn, which is organised by the Beethoven Jubiläums GmbH, marks the beginning of an extraordinary journey through Europe with Beethoven's symphonies. From Bonn, the First Symphony and the "Leonoren" Overture No. 3 will be broadcast live throughout Europe by WDR for Arte. After stops in Dublin with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra conducted by Martin Jamie, Helsinki with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Nicolas Collon, Luxembourg, Prague with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Steven Mercurio, Lugano with I Barocchist and Diego Fasolis, Athens and MusicAeterna conducted by Teodor Currentzis and Strasbourg with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg and Marko Letonja, the day will end in Vienna with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra conducted by Karina Canellakis. Symbolically, Beethoven's journey from Bonn to Vienna is thus represented.
