Young musicians, old instruments
Since its beginnings in the 1950s, historical performance practice has become a natural part of public concert life, with a repertoire extending well into the 19th century; almost all European music academies have established courses of study or institutes for historical performance practice or "early music" - and yet there has not yet been an international competition on historical instruments for the period around 1800. Siegburg has therefore taken remedial action: The competition "Beethoven in his time" is aimed specifically at young chamber music ensembles (duo or trio) playing on historical instruments. The focus is on the work of Ludwig van Beethoven, supplemented by works by composers from his Bonn and Vienna environment. At the end of May 2021 the first prize winners will be chosen - at the Beethovenfest they will again have the chance to prove their skills.
