Beethoven, Wagner and the Political Movements of Their Time

Woelfl-Haus Bonn, Woelflsaal | 53123 Bonn

As a composer, Ludwig van Beethoven was Richard Wagner's declared musical model. Both are contemporary witnesses of major political-social changes in the 19th century and comment on them in detail - in their works, writings and letters. They are among the first truly "political composers" of their time. The symposium compares their positioning on revolutions and restorations of their era and discusses the statements of both composers on politics and society.
