Julius Eastman - Right thought, right music. Postponed to spring 2021!

Theater im Ballsaal | 53121 Bonn

Julius Eastman was a man of many talents, a composer, pianist, singer and dancer, but above all, a non-conformist who liked to walk the fine line and provoke: as a black man in New York’s predominantly white New Music scene, as an openly gay man in a profoundly homophobic society, and as an artist who ventured between a wide variety of musical genres from electronic, minimal and jazz to pop, impro and disco.

The TRA I TEMPI ensemble will play three consecutive concerts presenting a representative sample of Eastman’s compositions. Works such as Crazy Nigger, Gay Guerilla or Colors exemplify his critical socio-political stance.

Concerts at 6:00 pm, 7:30 pm and 10:00 pm

Bach and Beethoven: True art remains eternal

Bach-Museum Leipzig | 04109 Leipzig

Today Beethoven and Bach are among the most famous composers worldwide, but how did it come about? The Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung, founded in Leipzig in 1798, provided the decisive basis for this. The exhibition illuminates Leipzig's musical life in the early 19th century and the mutually dependent canonisation of Bach and Beethoven as classics of music. Visitors also learn how the music of Johann Sebastian Bach influenced Beethoven's work.

Bonn Jazzfest

The 2020 Bonn Jazzfest is all about the art of improvisation. Beethoven used improvisation as a creative source for his boundary-busting music; today we encounter it primarily in jazz. In the Bonn Jazzfest concerts, fascinating artists from Germany and abroad seek out promising approaches between the traditional soundscape of classical music and the musical here and now.

Minona

Theater am Bismarckplatz | 93047 Regensburg

The Beethoven Year 2020 starts at the Regensburg Theatre with the world premiere of the opera "Minona" by the Estonian composer Jüri Reinvere, who is already well known in Germany in the field of symphonic music. With "Minona", he introduces himself to the German opera audience for the first time.

On the occasion of Ludwig van Beethoven's 250th birthday, the opera is dedicated to the fate of Minona von Stackelberg. Evidence suggests that she is Beethoven's biological daughter.
