Together with pianist Marco Sanna, the outstanding young violinist Judith Stapf undertakes an interesting experiment: she juxtaposes Beethoven's "canonical" violin sonatas with "daughter works" by largely unknown female composers written some 100 years later.

POSTPONED TO 2021!!!

We‘re celebrating “Beethoven in nature”! 6 castles, 6 communities, 6 dates. Beethoven was active in many places in the region and gave organ and piano concerts here as a child. This inspired the decision to “bring him back” to the region to mark the anniversary. Spend a laid-back afternoon with the whole family in a historical setting with music by Ludwig van Beethoven.

"Nine" CANCELLED

Kongress Palais Stadthalle | 34119 Kassel

250 years of Beethoven - the Beethoven crescendo

The German National Youth Orchestra (Bundesjugendorchester) and the World Youth Choir will begin their 2020 summer tour in Bonn by combining Beethoven's "masterpiece" with a premiere by Tan Dun.

Tan Dun (*1957)

"Nine" (Premiere)

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827)

Symphony No. 9, D minor op. 125

Tan Dun is the internationally most well-known Chinese composer. His compositions combine elements of classical and modern music, as well as Asian and European music styles. For BTHVN2020, he is working on his “Nine”, a half-hour choral concert in which he sets the “Jiu Ge”, the “Nine Songs”, to music. They are of shamanic origin and were written around 300 BC by Qu Yuan (Chinese 屈原), who is considered China’s first historically known poet. “Nine” develops a dialogue between Qu Yuan and Schiller, as well as between Tan Dun and Beethoven on “the beauty of humankind, the beauty of the mind and the beauty of the earth” (Tan Dun).

Tan Dun: "This how I’m making "Nine": Building the bridge from the Nine Songs and the most ancient traditions of classical art and beauty in China to the Ninth Symphony, which is loved people all over the world. The most beautiful dream of humankind and the beauty of human history; uniting these two works from East and West is my dream. I am Tan Dun and I am writing this for you and my love."
