Beethoven Mass in C major, op. 86

St. Michael | 53115 Bonn-Endenich

Beethoven was commissioned to write the Mass by Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy. The styles of Haydn and Mozart can still be found in many parts of the Mass from Beethoven’s middle period, which also shows his personal beliefs and the unmistakable hallmarks of his personal style. As in the case of his symphonies, which were composed around the same time, Beethoven treads new compositional ground here and earns the complete misunderstanding of his client.
