Musikfest Berlin 2020 | Igor Levit Plays Beethoven | 32 Piano Sonatas in 8 Events| Concert II

Berliner Philharmonie | 10785 Berlin

Igor Levit's history with Beethoven began 18 years ago. The then 14-year-old heard Missa Solemnis and was overwhelmed. Shortly thereafter, he studied one of the first Beethoven sonatas and it accompanied him for years. In 2010, he decided to perform and record them all – he had already made headlines with a sensational interpretation of the Diabelli Variations. In 2019 he completed the recording of the sonatas and will be presenting the 32 works within the framework of Musikfest Berlin (Music Festival Berlin) in 2020.

DEPTH of Field

The spotlight of the opening ceremony of the MUZIEK BIENNALE NIEDERRHEIN on 29 and 30 August 2020 is on a "Lower Rhine Beethoven Trilogy", which brings Beethoven's oeuvre a composer, humanist and visionary to the present with musical and historical DEPTH wanderings and newly tilled sound fields. The scene of the event is the Kamp-Lintfort Horticultural Show, which spans the arc from the former spiritual centre of Kamp Abbey with its terraced garden to the post-industrial coal mine monument.

Bach and Beethoven: True art remains eternal

Bach-Museum Leipzig | 04109 Leipzig

Today Beethoven and Bach are among the most famous composers worldwide, but how did it come about? The Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung, founded in Leipzig in 1798, provided the decisive basis for this. The exhibition illuminates Leipzig's musical life in the early 19th century and the mutually dependent canonisation of Bach and Beethoven as classics of music. Visitors also learn how the music of Johann Sebastian Bach influenced Beethoven's work.
