Overview of completed BTHVN2020 events

Here you will find the projects of the Beethoven anniversary year that have already been realized.

Light Art in Bonn (December 2019)

Prometheus, the bringer of light, fascinated Beethoven throughout his life. The character was also the inspiration behind the light art installations by the Berlin-based artist collective Schultze/Müller (Nils-R. Schultze, nachleuchten.com; Felix Müller muellerandfriends.com).

The short days and long nights of Beethoven’s month of birth formed the stage for the BTHVN2020 Illuminations in Bonn. Ten light art installations drew on Beethoven’s musical oeuvre and allowed the city of Bonn to be experienced in a new light between 14–22 December, creating memorable images in the minds of the visitors.

The light installations combined a broad spectrum of different settings to create a complete picture in urban Bonn. They used conventional lighting, basic control systems and very few projections to deliberately avoid attention-grabbing.

You can find more photos of the light art project in our press photos.

'Beethoven at home' (December 2019)

At the beginning of the Beethoven anniversary year, the Beethoven Anniversary Society BTHVN2020 initiated home concerts throughout Germany during the weekend of 14./15. December 2019 with the project BEETHOVEN AT HOME. People of all social spheres of life could actively help shape the anniversary and, as hosts, opened their homes for artists and visitors. More than 800 concerts took place in Germany. There were even 220 events in North Rhine-Westphalia, many of them around Bonn.

In living rooms, club rooms or shops, concerts, readings or performances on the subject of Beethoven were offered. Even at Beethoven's time, artists performed privately. Today, just like 250 years ago, it is still an experience to enjoy live music in a small group of friends, family and guests in their own home.
